Moderna Museet Malmö, Sweden

by Stockholm Design Lab
2009

Moderna Museet Malmö is the second location of the main museum in Stockholm.

The former Electricity Station dating from 1900 and once the Rooseum gallery, was refurbished to meet international museum standards. Seen from the exterior a new extension marks the arrival of the new museum.

The extension provides a new entrance and reception space, as well as a cafeteria and a new upper gallery. Its perforated orange façade both connects to the existing brick architecture and introduces a contemporary element to the neighbourhood.

Stockholm Design Lab, together with Henrik Nygren and Greger Ulf Nilson, created a comprehensive identity program for Moderna Museet Stockholm, which was then applied to this second space.
