Werkheim Uster, Switzerland

Werkheim Uster is a living and working institution for disabled people, the building was designed by Hodel Archtiekten.

The wayfinding signage respects the institutions in-house production facilities, which are: silkscreen, wood- and metalwork. The typeface for the main lettering and the numerals is based on an alphabet of equiangular pieces without circles and is cut out of wooden profiles. The modular characters are made of the same profiles, then silkscreened and finally used to create words or names (a bit like letterpress characters). All the components are made by the inhabitants.
